WEEK 9:
NUTRITION CHALLENGE:
**Visit a local grocery store you’ve never been to before.
+
Give us a review!**
Explanation:
Before I ever set foot in a Whole Foods, now one of my most favorite places ever, some of my exact thoughts and impressions were:
“Rich people shop there.”
“I can’t afford anything in there.”
“It’s scary.”
“I feel weird going in because I don't have 'money'.”
“What if they look at me funny?”
“What if I look aimless and lost?”
“What if I don’t fit in…?”
And so on. Yeah. Silly. Ridiculous actually. Not only because I had unfounded preconceived ideas about someplace I’d never been... but that these ideas were about how I’d fit in - at a grocery store. Seriously? Yeah. Anyway. So looking back, it’s easy for me to laugh about this but, at the time, these were real feelings I was having! However, had I not eventually gotten over myself and dragged my butt in there, I would have never “met” one of the coolest places in our area.
So this week, I want you to check out someplace new to you. It can be a big place. Or a small place. It can be “your” Whole Foods. Or a local hidden gem. Dave and I recently found a little Indian grocer on our corner. It was very cool experiencing all the differences from a traditional "American" grocery store - smelling the new smells, seeing how they label things, the different displays...
Bring a buddy or go alone. Smile. Talk to people. Buy something. And let us know how it goes! Come back here after your visit and tell us how you liked it. Review the place. The selection, the prices, the vibe. Recommend it? Don’t? This week is about expanding our comfort circle and our knowledge of food sources. So get your buns out there and check it out!
FITNESS CHALLENGE:
**Sign up for a charity race!**
Explanation:
Don't freak out! Our definition of “Race”: 5K, 10K, fun run, fun walk, etc.
If you were good boys and girls, you got your miles in last week so you know you've got the ability. Hopefully the thought of stringing together a couple miles is no longer a daunting thing for you. It shouldn't be. Also, remember, there’s no such thing as the Evil Race Fairy who’s going to point and laugh if you have to walk portions (or all!) of your race. Believe it or not - people do these for fun! No pressure. Just do your best. And enjoy the experience!
There are a TON of events this time of year. And almost all of them are for charities. Pick one that means something to you. Pick one that supports something you’d like to learn more about. Pick one where the route seems nice! I don’t care how you choose. The only criteria is that it has to be an official event, at least a mile in length, and it must be for charity. Sign up and let us know which one (or ones!!) you’re doing!
